[edit]From Italian campagna (“field; military operation”) and French campagne, from Late Latin campānia (“open country; battlefield”), from Latin campus (“field”). Compare Spanish campaña, Portuguese campanha, Polish kampania, Russian кампания (kampanija). Doublet of kampo and ĉampano.
