Borrowed from Kapampangan kabuyau (modern kabuyo), from Proto-Philippine *kabuʀaw. Compare Ivatan kavugaw, Ilocano kabugaw / kaburaw, and Cebuano kabugaw. See also Ilocano kamuyaw.
