[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قیص قیوراق (ḳıs ḳıvraḳ),[1][2][3] likely from قیصمق (ḳısmaḳ) and قاورامق (ḳavramaḳ), not from قیوراق (ḳıvraḳ, “lively, agile, sharp”),[4] equivalent to kıs- (“to pinch, to squeeze”) + kavra- (“to grab, to seize”) + -k (adjectival participle suffix).
