Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑁄𑀮 (*kola), perhaps from Sanskrit कौल (kaula, worshipper of Śakti according to left-hand ritual), खोल (khola, lame), कोर (kora, movable joint). Cognate with Shina [script needed] (kōlu, crooked), Dameli [script needed] (kōla, crooked).
