[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Compound of jacht (“haste”) or jachten (“to hurry”) + schip (“ship”). Perhaps a modification of Middle Dutch jageschip. Although jachtschip is attested later than jacht (“yacht”), it is often supposed to be the older form; for one, it explains the neuter gender of jacht.[1]

- (now uncommon and often historical) a yacht (light, fast vessel), in particular a sailing yacht
- Synonyms: jacht, jachtschuit
