[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish استثمار (istismār) (which lacks written record), from Arabic اِسْتِثْمَار (istiṯmār, “investment”), verbal noun of اِسْتَثْمَرَ (istaṯmara, “to exploit, to invest”).[1] Cognates with Azerbaijani istismar.
