Etymology

From dialectal Ottoman Turkish [script needed] (irdele-), originally frequentative form of Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (irde-, to search), from Proto-Turkic *īr-te-, from *īŕ (trace),[1] see iz (trace).

Cognate to istemek, Karakhanid اِرْتاماكْ (irtēmēk, to search, seek, inquire), Yakut ирдээ (irdee, to search, track down, investigate, require, demand).
