Usage notes
[edit]It is used only in nouns. Sometimes it can be combined with the word before it, and if combined, the letter i is dropped. If the word before it ends with a vowel sound, the i is replaced by a consonant y. For example:
- öyle (“like that”) + -imiş = öyleymiş (“(I guess) he/she/it was like that or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was like that”) or öyle (“like that”) + -imiş = öyle imiş (“(I guess) he/she/it was like that or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was like that”).
- çocuk (“child”) + -imiş = çocukmuş (“(I guess) he/she/it was a child or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was a child”) or çocuk imiş (“(I guess) he/she/it was a child or (I heard that) he/she/it is/was a child”).
