[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اختصاص (iḫtiṣāṣ, “a being or becoming special and peculiar, being specially and devotedly attached (to a person), special attachment, exclusive devotion”),[1] from Arabic اِخْتِصَاص (iḵtiṣāṣ), verbal noun of خَصَّ (ḵaṣṣa, “to single out, to distinguish, to be characteristic for, to be peculiar for”).[2]
