Borrowed from Koine Greek εἰδωλολατρείᾱ (eidōlolatreíā) or εἰδωλολατρίᾱ (eidōlolatríā, worship of idols), back-formation from εἰδωλολάτρης (eidōlolátrēs) (īdōlatra in Latin), from εἴδωλον (eídōlon, idol) + λάτρις (látris, worshipper) or λατρεύω (latreúō, I worship), from λάτρον (látron, payment).
