[edit]Perhaps derived from the root -iahia’k- (“cross over”) as seen in tetià:ia’ks (“I cross over”), referring to crossing over from finger-counting on one hand to the other. If true then inherited from Proto-North Iroquoian *-jahjaɁk-.
