Icelandic

Etymology

[edit]

From hross (horse) +‎ fluga (fly). The reason for this nomenclature is uncertain, but some think that it has been given this name either because its feet are reminding of a horse's long legs, or because it has legs which are long and clumsy, like those of a horse (compared to the torso).[1]
