[edit]From Arabic حُقَّة (ḥuqqa, “water pipe; cup of a juggler”). The non-archaic senses are a back-formation from hoqqabaz (“juggler, trickster”), via Persian حقه باز (“player at cups-and-balls; juggler; pick-pocket; plotter, impostor”).
