From the Medieval Latin hidrōticus, from the Ancient Greek ἱδρωτικός (hidrōtikós), from ἱδρώς (hidrṓs, sweat, stem: ἱδρωτ-); by surface analysis, hidr(osis)- +‎ -otic.
