Borrowed from Ukrainian хитрий (xytryj), from Proto-Slavic *xytrъ. Compare Bulgarian хитър (hitǎr), Russian хитрый (xitryj), Czech chytrý, Old Church Slavonic хꙑтръ (xytrŭ).
