From Middle Chinese (MC kwangX). Cognate with Ahom 𑜀𑜡𑜂𑜫 (kāṅ), Thai กว้าง (gwâang), Northern Thai ᨠ᩠ᩅ᩶ᩣ᩠ᨦ, Lao ກວ້າງ (kuāng), ᦦᦱᧂᧉ (k̇waang²), Shan ၵႂၢင်ႈ (kwāang), Phake ကင် (kaṅ), Bouyei gvaangs. Compare Sui faangc (wide, broad), Southern Kam kuangt (wide, broad).
