[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish غربت (gurbet, “a being away from home, absence and exile, perfect whiteness”), from Arabic غُرْبَة (ḡurba, “a feeling of longing for one's native land, of being a stranger”), from غَرَبَ (ḡaraba, “to go away, to depart, to withdraw, to leave”).[1].
