[edit]Inherited from Proto-West Germanic *grunnattjan, from Proto-Germanic *grunnatjaną (“to grunt”). Related to Old High German grunnezzen (German grunzen), Old Norse *grynta (Swedish grymta). Equivalent to grunnian + -ettan.
