Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German klucken, from Old High German klokkōn, from Proto-West Germanic *klukkwōn, from Proto-Germanic *klukkwōną, of onomatopoeic origin. Cognate with Dutch klokken, English cluck. The g- by dissimilation.
