Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish كتدكجه[1] or كیتدكجه (gitdikce, gittikçe),[2] from كتمك (gitmek), equivalent to git- (to go) +‎ -tik +‎ -çe. Cognates with Azerbaijani getdikcə, Turkmen gitdikçe.
