[edit]From Middle High German gelüsten, gelusten, glusten, from Old High German gilusten, from Proto-West Germanic *galustijan, equivalent to ge- + lüsten. Cognate with Middle Low German gelüsten, Middle Dutch gelusten, Saterland Frisian gelustje, Old English ġelystan (“to please, desire, like”).
