[edit]From Middle High German gehaben, from Old High German gihabēn (akin to Old Saxon gihebbian, Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐌷𐌰𐌱𐌰𐌽 (gahaban), Old English gehabban), from Proto-Germanic *gahabjaną. Cognate with Low German gehebben.
