Etymology

From a reflex of Basque: *quaresima, from Latin quadrāgēsima (the fortieth part; Lent), substantive of quadrāgēsimus (fortieth). Compare Spanish Cuaresma, Portuguese quaresma, French carême and Galician coresma.
