[edit]From Sanskrit गाथा (gāthā), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gaHtHa-. Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬁𐬚𐬁 (gāθā, “form of strophe, metre, namely the collections of Zarathustra's songs”).
