[edit]Metathesis of older gâltej (Dosofteiu), derivative of gâlt + -ej (modern gât), borrowed from Old Church Slavonic глътъ (glŭtŭ), from Proto-Slavic *gъltъ, related to *glъtati (“to swallow, devour”).[1]
