[edit]

From Fougères +‎ -ite, after a commune in France where it was found.

Noun

[edit]

fougerite (uncountable)

  1. (mineralogy) A trigonal clay mineral that is chemically and structurally related to green rust.
    • 2022, Thomas Halliday, Otherlands, Penguin, published 2023, page 233:
Typical fougèrite crystals are small enough to become embedded in protocell membranes, which turns these crystals into natural channels, transporting and concentrating a chemical called pyrophosphate within these membranes.
