Etymology

[edit]

From fot +‎ sax.

(glassblowing): The word sax (scissors) refers to the original construction of the tool, when it was made of two sticks, similar to the scissors popular in old time, when scissors were made of one single piece metal without the pin (today's construction is made of different metal parts and two graphite slices and has no similarity with scissors).

  1. scissors used for clipping of nails on feet
  2. (glassblowing) a tool used to form the wine glass foot (in manual production of a wine glass, when the wine glass stem is already done)
    Synonym: fotpinne
