Usage notes

[edit]

A jocular plural is fotnötter, superficially fot (foot) + nötter (nuts), imitating the umlaut plural of words like fot (foot), rot (root), mus (mouse), gås (goose), and tand (tooth). Fotnötter is sometimes mistakenly assumed to be the standard form due to frequent use.
