[edit]From Old Danish feydhe, borrowed from Middle Low German veide, from Old Saxon *fēhitha, from Proto-West Germanic *faihiþu (“enmity, feud”).
Cognate with English feud and German Fehde. It is an abstract noun derived from *faih (“hostile”) (cf. English foe).
