[edit]From Falun (a city in Dalarna County, Sweden) + korv (“sausage”).
Many oxen were slaughtered to make rope from their hides for the Falun Mine, with some of the meat turned into sausages that became known as "Fahlu Korf" in Stockholm in the early 19th century. The oldest known instance of the word spelled "falukorv" is from 1889. The modern sausage was developed around 1890 by Anders Olsson in Falun.
