1. (India) Exile; banishment, as a sentence for crime.
   • 1953, The Indian Journal of Political Science, volumes 14-15, page 112:

     The Court also observed that the East Punjab Public Safety Act, 1949, did not authorise the Provincial Government to order the externment from the Province of a person ordinarily residing in the Province, but only the outsiders.

   • 1967, The All-Pakistan Legal Decisions, Vol. 10, Part 4, p. 115:

     We should note an argument advanced in favour of externments for unlimited time.

   • 1983, D. C. Pandey, Habitual Offenders and the Law, page 31:

     An externment of a person is a harsh punishment on him and calls for procedural safeguards against the abuse of power by the authorities.
