[edit]Via other European languages, ultimately borrowed from Latin ēvolūtiō (“the act of unrolling, unfolding or opening (of a book)”), from ēvolūtus, perfect passive participle of ēvolvō (“unroll, unfold”), from ē (“out of”), short form of ex, and volvō (“roll”).
