[edit]From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (erken, “early, early in the morning”), from [script needed] (er, “early”) and [script needed] (iken), equivalent to modern Azerbaijani -kən. Compare Turkish erken. Ultimately a derivation from Proto-Turkic *ẹ̄r (“early”).
