[edit]From Middle Dutch ergens, ergent, ergen, irgen, from Old Dutch *iergin, *iowergin, from Proto-Germanic *euhwargin. Cognate with Old Saxon hwergin (> Middle Low German ergent, ergens), Old High German hwergin, iowergin (> Middle High German iergen, > German irgend), Old English hwerġen, Old Norse hvargi.
