Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اڭی قونی (eñi ḳonu)[1][2][3] from اڭ (, width), from Proto-Turkic *ēn (breadth, width),[4] from *ēn- (to go down, to descend),[5][6] deteriorated from ineyim (1st P. Sg. optative inflection of inmek (to descend)) +‎ konayım (1st P. Sg. optative inflection of konmak (to perch, to alight)).
