Etymology
[edit]Metathesized from earlier eascob, from Old Irish epscop, from Latin episcopus, from Ancient Greek ἐπίσκοπος (epískopos, “overseer”).[1] Cognate with Manx aspick and Scottish Gaelic easbaig.
