[edit]Inherited from Old Catalan daraçana, from Andalusian Arabic دار الصنعة (dár aṣ-ṣánʕa), variant of دار الصناعة (dár aṣ-ṣináʕa), from Arabic دَار اَلصِّنَاعَة (dār aṣ-ṣināʕa, literally “house of industry”). Cognate to Spanish atarazana, Italian darsena. The modern form has been influenced by dreçar (“to right, to erect”).
