Albanian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From dialectal i udobë (easy), from a South Slavic language, compare Old Church Slavonic оудобь (udobĭ, easy) and Serbo-Croatian udoban (comfortable); ultimately from Proto-Slavic *dobъ (good, well, nice).[1][2] Orel describes it as derived from an earlier dobë, whence dobi (benefit), borrowed into Albanian from a South Slavic language, and ultimately derived from Proto-Slavic *dobъ, which itself is not attested South Slavic, where *dobrъ is widespread.[3]
