[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *dabas, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰh₂ebʰ-o-s, from *dʰh₂ebʰ- (“to model, to fashion”). Cognate with Latvian daba (“nature”), Lithuanian dabà (“habit, characteristic”).
