[edit]From Vulgar Latin *dēpānāre, from Latin pānus (“thread wound upon the bobbin”), from Ancient Greek πῆνος (pênos). Compare Spanish devanar, Portuguese dobar, Catalan debanar, Sardinian demanare, Romanian depăna.
