degree of frost (plural degrees of frost)

  1. (dated) A temperature interval of one degree below the freezing point of water.
    • 1908, Jack London, To Build a Fire[1]:
It was seventy-five below zero. Since the freezing-point is thirty-two above zero, it meant that one hundred and seven degrees of frost obtained.

[edit]

Used with temperature scales, such as Fahrenheit, where the zero-degree point is not the freezing point of water.
