[edit]Borrowed from Arabic ضَرْب (ḍarb), note that the letter ض is pronounced exceptionally as the phoneme /d/ instead of the usual /z/ which is seen in the etymologically related mızrap (from مِضْرَاب (miḍrāb)) or zayıf (from ضَعِيف (ḍaʕīf)).
