Possibly inherited from Proto-Philippine *darás, or borrowed from Malay deras from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *dəʀas (hasten) or Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *dəʀəs (swift flowing of water, rain). Compare Ilocano daras / degges, Aklanon daeas, Maranao daras / reges. Doublet of dagas. See also Sanskrit धारा (dhārā, stream).
