[edit]From Ottoman Turkish درت نعل (dört nʿal, “at full gallop, by making the animal run”),[1][2][3] from درت (dört) and نعل (nʿal),[4][5] equivalent to dört (“four”) + nal (“horseshoe”) + -a (dative suffix), literally “on/with four horseshoes”.
