déi Wëll lafen am Bësch

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Luxembourgish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Literally "the wild ones run in the forest".

Note

[edit]

This is a pun. A nagging child will often repeat "ech wëll! ech wëll!" (literally "I want! I want!"), which can be willingly misinterpreted as "ech Wëll! ech Wëll!" (literally "I wild! I wild!"). This is meant to make the child cease asking for whatever they were begging for.
