Stem cymer- from Proto-Brythonic *kummėrɨd, from Proto-Celtic *kombereti, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱom + *bʰéreti; verbal noun cymryd from Proto-Brythonic *kumrɨd, from Proto-Celtic *kombritus.
