From Ancient Greek κρῐκοειδής (krikoeidḗs, ring-shaped, annular) +‎ -eus (adjectival suffix), from κρίκος (kríkos, a ring) +‎ -ειδής (-eidḗs, -like, -oid). Doublet of cricoīdēs.
