Etymology

[edit]

Possibly a calque of English dumbwaiter. First attested in the 19th century.[1][2] Folk etymology has led people to wrongly believe that this term has a racist origin. As a result, many people have stopped using it, including several furniture brands in Brazil.[3][4]
