[edit]Inherited from Latin cōnsōbrīnus, possibly through Vulgar Latin cōnsōbrīnus prīmus > *cosob(r)inprimu > *cosuinprimu > *cosinprim > cosin.[1] Compare Occitan cosin, French cousin. See also Spanish primo.
