Borrowed from Hungarian csuka, from Proto-Slavic *ščùka. Doublet of știucă.

Uncertain. Possibly a substratum word.[1] Compare Bulgarian чука (čuka, rocky hillock, peak), Albanian çukë (peak), Serbo-Croatian čuka (hilltop).
